Manuel Antonio National Park: Where Rainforest Meets the Sea Guide

Manuel Antonio National Park is a jewel of Costa Rica, renowned for its stunning beaches, lush rainforest, and abundant wildlife. This relatively small park packs a punch, offering visitors a chance to experience the country's incredible biodiversity in a concentrated area. From playful monkeys to colorful birds and elusive sloths, Manuel Antonio is a nature lover's paradise. Established in 1972, Manuel Antonio National Park was created to protect the area's unique ecosystem and prevent further deforestation. The park's history is intertwined with the local community, who have played a vital role in its conservation. The park's success has made it a model for ecotourism in Costa Rica, demonstrating how tourism can benefit both the environment and the local economy. Visitors to Manuel Antonio National Park can enjoy a variety of activities, including hiking, swimming, sunbathing, and wildlife viewing. Several well-maintained trails wind through the rainforest, offering opportunities to spot monkeys, sloths, iguanas, and a variety of bird species. While not specifically within the park, the surrounding area of Manuel Antonio offers a wide array of restaurants serving traditional Costa Rican dishes like gallo pinto (rice and beans) and casado (a plate with rice, beans, plantains, meat, and salad).
